Rescued Assistance Center in Zaporizhzhia

The Rescued Assistance Center is a place where social, psychological, and legal support is provided to those affected by the war. It is a safe, free, and unconditional space. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, around 200 cases of war-related sexual violence have been documented, affecting women, men, and children.

At the Rescued Assistance Center, people who have fled from active combat zones and/or temporarily occupied territories can receive comprehensive social and psychological support in one place.

The Center in Zaporizhzhia is staffed by social workers, psychologists (including a child psychologist), a case manager, and a specialist in managing cases of violence, particularly war-related violence. Visitors can also receive information about medical services, humanitarian aid, housing, and social benefits. In complex cases, such as those involving sexual violence, the Center’s specialists offer long-term support to help victims overcome post-traumatic stress disorder and return to normal life.

Services offered at the Rescued Assistance Center:

  • Consultations for document processing;
  • Social support;
  • Psychological consultations for children and adults;
  • Group sessions with a psychologist;
  • Legal consultations;
  • Case management for incidents of war-related violence in Ukraine.

Rescued Assistance Centers operate in 11 cities across Ukraine, offering qualified and free social-psychological assistance to all those affected by the war. The first center in Ukraine opened in Zaporizhzhia in the summer of 2022. At the center, both those who have fled active combat zones and/or temporarily occupied territories, as well as local residents, can access comprehensive, qualified assistance in one place.

The Rescued Assistance Center in Zaporizhzhia was established through the initiative of the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, with the support of the Government Commissioner for Gender Policy, in partnership with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Ukraine, with financial support from the governments of Belgium, France, Sweden, and in collaboration with the implementing partner, the Charitable Foundation “Posmishka UA.”
