Strengthening access and service delivery to support SRH and GBV among women and girls.

The conflict in Ukraine has significantly exacerbated the humanitarian crisis, leading to a sharp increase in cases of gender-based violence (GBV) and a growing need for sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services. In frontline areas, the provision of these critically important services is often disrupted due to security risks, infrastructure destruction, and limited access to medical and social institutions.
The project “Strengthening Access and Service Delivery to Support SRH and GBV Among Conflict-Affected Women and Girls in Eastern and Southern Ukraine” aims to address these challenges in Kharkiv, Mykolaiv, and Kherson regions. The primary goal of the project is to ensure that vulnerable populations have access to comprehensive survivor-centered services to restore their physical and psychological well-being.
Key Areas of Activity:
- Training and Support for Healthcare Professionals. Obstetricians-gynecologists, family doctors, and other specialists receive training on responding to cases of sexual violence, providing first psychological aid, and supporting survivors.
- Equipping Medical Facilities. Supplying essential medical equipment, consumables, and creating a barrier-free and inclusive environment to ensure high-quality SRH and GBV response services.
- Mobile Social and Medical Assistance Teams. Comprising doctors, psychologists, social workers, and case managers, these teams work together to address the complex needs of survivors, provide on-site assistance, and facilitate referrals to specialized services.
- Information Sessions for Local Services. Strengthening the capacity of key institutions through training on GBV prevention and response, including first psychological aid techniques.
- Case Management. Each survivor is assigned a specialist who ensures access to all necessary services—from legal consultations to medical and psychological support—helping to establish a long-term support system.
The project also aims to reduce gender inequality, combat violence against women, strengthen women’s rights and economic independence, and actively engage them in decision-making processes.
This initiative lays the foundation for a sustainable support system for survivors, enabling effective response to the consequences of the conflict and improving the quality of life for women and girls in frontline regions.
The project “Strengthening Access and Service Delivery to Support SRH and GBV Among Conflict-Affected Women and Girls in Eastern and Southern Ukraine” is implemented by Smiling UA Foundation in partnership with the international humanitarian organization CARE, with the support of the German Federal Foreign Office.рдонних справ Німеччини.
